Fire Prevention

Fire prevention is a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of every resident. By working together, we can reduce the risk of fires and protect our homes, families, and neighbors.

Here are some essential fire prevention tips to keep in mind:

  1. Install Smoke Alarms: Make sure your home is equipped with working smoke alarms on every floor and inside each bedroom. Test them monthly and replace the batteries at least once a year.
  2. Create an Escape Plan: Develop and practice a family escape plan that includes two ways out of every room. Ensure everyone knows the meeting place outside, and conduct regular fire drills.
  3. Kitchen Safety: Cooking fires are a leading cause of home fires. Never leave cooking unattended, and keep flammable items away from the stovetop. Install a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.
  4. Heating Safety: Space heaters and fireplaces should be used with caution. Maintain a safe distance from combustible materials and have heating equipment inspected regularly.
  5. Electrical Safety: Avoid overloading outlets and extension cords. Replace damaged cords or appliances promptly, and have a licensed electrician address any electrical issues in your home.
  6. Candle Safety: Use candles in stable holders and never leave them unattended. Consider using battery-operated candles as a safer alternative.
  7. Smoking Safety: If you smoke, do so outside, and always use a deep, sturdy ashtray. Ensure cigarette butts are completely extinguished before disposal.
  8. Fire Extinguishers: Keep a fire extinguisher in key areas of your home, such as the kitchen and garage, and know how to use it.
  9. Proper Storage: Store flammable liquids and chemicals in a well-ventilated area away from heat sources and out of reach of children.
  10. Grill Safety: Maintain a safe distance between your grill and any structures, and never leave it unattended while in use.
